Organ donation: PGI partners with Panjab varsity to spread awareness

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research’s Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO), in collaboration with Panjab University, has taken a significant step towards enhancing awareness on organ donation.

A session held at the university’s Senate Hall witnessed participation from the Department of Accounts and Finance, underscoring Panjab University’s dedication to this noble cause.

The session was led by Prof Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER & Nodal Officer, ROTTO PGIMER, along with CA Vikram Nayyar, Finance & Development Officer, Panjab University, who played a key role in organising the event. Nayyar pledged his organs inspiring others to joining the cause. “Organ donation is a gift of life. Having witnessed the impact of organ donation firsthand, I believe awareness is the first crucial step.

By educating our employees today, we aim to instill the values of this life-saving initiative in every family represented here,” he added.

“Pledging my organs is a small step toward making a big difference, and I hope it encourages others to participate in this vital initiative,” Dr Nayyar stated.

Prof Koushal emphasised the social significance of organ donation, stating, “Organ donation is not just a medical act; it is a social responsibility. The active participation of institutions like Panjab University is crucial in spreading awareness throughout society.“

Commending the university for its steadfast commitment, Prof Koushal said, “Panjab University exemplifies the leadership necessary to advance this mission. Today’s session marks another milestone in our collaboration.”

Saryu D Madra, Consultant (IEC/Media) at ROTTO PGIMER, elaborated on the gravity of the situation and the importance of organ pledging. Her discussion motivated many attendees to take action toward organ donation, signifying a crucial step towards societal change.

The session concluded with the presentation of mementos to the dignitaries, featuring artwork created by students as part of ROTTO’s Student Engagement Programme, ‘Be the Change, Be an Organ Donor’.
