Such students have been asked to wait and re-apply during the second round of counselling, which is scheduled later. Many students, the majority of whom were eligible to apply under the ‘Outside UT Pool’, mistakenly applied under the UT Pool and even received online confirmation of their school allotment. However, upon reaching the allotted schools for document verification, these students were left in shock when informed about their ineligibility.
After receiving several grievances, the department has now decided to allow them to re-apply during second counselling.
As per the allocation criteria, approximately 85 per cent of total seats in local government senior secondary schools are open to Class X pass-outs from government schools in Chandigarh. The seats are filled based on board exam merit, school preferences and availability of seats. Approximately 15 per cent of the total seats are reserved for Class X pass-outs of local private schools and students from other states and other boards. These too are filled based on board marks, school preference and seat availability.
“It was not a technical error. The students are from private schools but they filled the form as students of government schools, as a result they were allotted seats under the 85 per cent reservation and on verification they were declined a seat. Just to give them a second opportunity, the department will allow them in the second counselling. Technically the students misrepresented and they should not be allowed, but given an inadvertent error on the parents’ part, the department will allow the students in the second counselling for allotment as private school students,” said Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar, Director School Education.
As per the admission schedule, a total of 13,875 seats were open for students. The provisional common merit list was displayed on June 12 and the list indicating school and stream allotment was published on June 20. Document verification at the allotted schools took place from June 28 to 30.
The department mandated candidates scoring 90 per cent and above to fill in a minimum of 10 schools, those with 80 to 90 per cent to fill 15 options, candidates scoring between 60 and 80 per cent to fill 20 options and those below 60 per cent to fill 25 options of school and stream choices.
