Over 1.4K cops to keep vigil during celebrations

Around 1,450 police personnel will be deployed across the city to ensure peaceful New Year Eve celebrations on Tueday. According to a police official, comprehensive security arrangements have been made, with a significant deployment of officers, including 13 DSPs, 16 SHOs and 19 Inspectors, who will be on the ground maintaining law and order.

Senior officers will oversee and monitor the security arrangements throughout the evening.

Women squad

A dedicated women’s squad has been formed to assist women. Eight PCR Vehicles with lady staff will be deployed at different places to assist those needing a safe ride home.

Besides, 44 internal nakas and 18 outer border nakas will be set up. Six ambulances, five fire tenders and three QRTs will be deployed at different places in the city to curb hooliganism. Special checkpoints will also be established to check drunken driving. Patrolling by PCR vehicles will be intensified in the city, especially around the places holding New Year Eve functions. The police personnel will also patrol parking lots to prevent public drinking, particularly in cars. They will also carry out special anti-sabotage check at places witnessing huge footfall.

Vehicular movement on certain road stretches will be restricted. These include internal roads of Sectors 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. Only the residents of these Sectors will be allowed to enter.

Heavy police deployment will be made at the Plaza, Sector 17; Elante Mall, Industrial Area Phase-I; near Aroma Hotel, Sector 22, besides clubs and restaurants in Sectors 7, 8, 9, 26, 35, 43, 22.

Elaborate traffic arrangements will also be made by the police. Ahead of the New Year celebrations, five gazetted officers have been assigned responsibility for security, with around 300 police personnel will be deployed across Panchkula.
