Over 39,000 cases settled in Mohali, Panchkula Lok Adalats

Over 39,000 cases were disposed off during the National Lok Adalat held in Mohali and Panchkula today.

In Mohali. 21,138 cases were disposed of by virtue of compromise by the different benches. A total of 23,469 pre-litigative and pending Criminal Compoundable Offences, NI Act cases under Section-138, bank recovery cases, MACT cases, matrimonial and labour disputes, land acquisition cases, electricity and water bills, service and retirement matters among others were taken up.

A total of 17 benches were constituted at the district headquarter. An additional six benches were constituted at the Kharar Sub-Division and seven at the Dera Bassi Sub-Division. Atul Kasana, Lead District and Sessions Judge, had earlier called various meetings of judicial officers banks, electricity department, labour department and insurance companies to sensitise them about the National Lok Adalat.

“They were also motivated and instructed to identify maximum number of cases which could be taken up in the National Lok Adalat and to make maximum efforts for disposal of the same in the Pre-Lok Adalats and National Lok Adalat,” said Surabhi Prashar, secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

of in Panchkula

Panchkula: The Lok Adalat was also held at the District Courts Complex, Panchkula, and the Sub-Divisional Courts, Kalka.

The initiative was held under the overall supervision of Ved Parkash Sirohi, District and Sessions Judge, Panchkula, and chairperson, DLSA.

According to Aparna Bhardwaj, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, six benches were constituted at the District Court, Panchkula, and one bench at Kalka. These were presided over by Judicial Officers including Himanshu Singh, Additional Sessions Judge; Manmeet Kaur Ghuman, JMIC; Ajay Kumar Ghanghas, CJM; Arunima Chauhan, JMIC; Jyoti Sandhu, JMIC; and at Kalka, Abhimanu Singh, SDJM.

Bhardwaj highlighted that awards of Lok Adalats are binding and have the force of a civil court decree, with the added benefit of refund of court fees. A total of 17,941 cases were settled during the Lok Adalat, bringing relief to litigants and easing the courts’ workload.

9K cases heard in Fatehgarh Sahib

Fatehgarh Sahib: A total of 8,898 cases were taken up in Lok Adalat in Fatehgarh Sahib, of which 6,928 cases were settled. Arun Gupta, District and Session Judge cum Chairperson, DLSA said 11 benches were constituted to facilitate the participants.
