Over 78K getting pensionary benefits in Mohali district
As many as 78,914 beneficiaries are given a monetary assistance of Rs 11.83 crore per month under various pension schemes in this district by the Social Security, Woman and Child Department of Punjab.
District Social Security Officer Amrit Bala informed that 48,315 beneficiaries of old age pension were provided financial assistance of Rs 7.24 crore and 17,179 beneficiaries under widow and destitute women pension Rs 2.57 crore. Besides, 6,370 destitute children were given Rs 95.65 lakh of monthly assistance and 7,043 Divyangs (persons with disabilities) Rs 1.05 crore in the form of pension.
The pension amount is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, said the officer.
Pension is given to men aged 65 or above and women aged 58 or above, whose income from all sources does not exceed Rs 60,000 per annum and have less than 2.5 acres in rural areas and less than 200 square yards of house in urban areas.
Similarly, widows and dependent women below 58 years of age, whose annual income is not more than Rs 60,000, and children below 21 years of age, who are deprived of care due to death or disability of their parents and their annual income is less than Rs 60,000, are also given financial assistance.
