Overall rowing trophy for Chandigarh University

Rowing teams of Chandigarh University, Gharuan, won the overall trophy of the All India Inter University Rowing Championship. As many as 700 participants from 30 universities across the country participated in the event, organised under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities.

The CU teams won a total of 25 medals -- 10 gold, seven silver and eight bronze. With 17 medals, Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, bagged the second position followed by Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, which won 12 medals.

The CU men’s team won six medals in 2000m (two gold, two silver and two bronze medals). In the men’s 500m race, the team won four gold and two bronze medals. In the women’s 2000m category, the team won a total of seven medals -- three gold, two silver and two bronze, while in the 500m event, the team won six medals -- one gold, three silver and two bronze.

Additionally, six students of the university have been selected to represent India in the World University Games to be held in Germany from July 16 to 27. The rowers -- Ankit, Vishal, Rohit, Saurabh, Rajat and Harvinder -- were selected after trials at Sukhna Lake.
