Paintings with messages of clean environs to spruce up walls in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, February 18
To sensitise the general public to key environmental issues and messages of Swachh Bharat Mission, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has started the project of wall paintings with special visual montages.
Mayor Sarabjit Kaur Dhillon today formally inaugurated the first wall painting at the Mani Majra underbridge in the presence of MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra, KONE Elevators India MD Amit Gossain and Green Dream Foundation founder and president Ashish Sachdeva. The foundation has taken this project under the CSR activity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said the project would uplift otherwise neglected walls, deliver a powerful message in an effective manner and offer good job opportunities to talented artists from different parts of the country.
She said the latest areas to get the sparkling facelift were the Mani Majra underpass and the subway between the ISBT-17 and Sector 22. She said the project aimed at sensitising general public to key environmental issues such as pollution, the need to save water, waste management and sustainable development.
The Commissioner said the idea behind the project was to get across the message and make people more mindful of their actions. As a happy consequence, it also served to beautify several neglected walls, in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission, she added.
