A special campaign against lane driving violations by the Panchkula Police saw 162 drivers being challaned between December 12 and 19. Cases were registered against 22 people.

Police Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Arya had instructed all personnel to take strict action against those flouting the traffic rules to ensure road safety.

Challans were then were also issued against those driving in the wrong lane.

Police personnel were instructed to ensure that every heavy vehicle and speed restricted vehicle runs in the left lane within its prescribed speed limit.

Besides, those driving on the wrong side/lane were also fined under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

“The campaign will continue in future as well. Many road accidents happen due to driving at high speed for a short time, driving in the wrong direction. One should never overtake from the wrong side. Whenever the driver changes the lane, he should always use the turn indicator. Changing the lane without signal can cause a serious accident,” a police official said.
