Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta has appealed to residents of the district, particularly young those aged 18 and above, to participate in the upcoming Civil Defence Volunteer Training Programme starting from May 12. The one-week training is being organised by the Panchkula district administration.


Ban on hoarding of essential commodities

Panchkula District Magistrate Monika Gupta has issued an order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, prohibiting hoarding and stockpiling of essential items in the district. The order covers rice, wheat, pulses, sugar, edible oils, vegetables, milk products, medicines and fuels such as petrol and diesel. Issued in light of an emergent situation, the directive applies throughout Panchkula. Violators will face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The order has been issued ex-parte and is addressed to the general public.

She said from Monday, May 12, training sessions would be held from 9 am to 12 noon at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3. During this time, the district’s youth would receive training as Civil Defence volunteers to prepare them to protect lives and property during emergencies or disasters.

She said volunteers must be aged between 18 and 50 years, and the minimum educational qualification required was Class 10. “For the role of Master Trainer, a volunteer must have eight to 10 years of relevant experience and three to five years of experience as a Warden, along with a bachelor’s degree. Physical fitness is also a prerequisite,” she said. She further said, “The Civil Defence Volunteer training will also be provided at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Bitna Pinjore, from 2 pm to 5 pm for interested individuals.”

She appealed too all interested candidates to register for the training by scanning the registration link provided.
