Panchkula, July 31
In order to ensure uniformity and standardisation of produce, a training workshop was organised at gram sachivalya, Bhoj Jabiyal, in Morni. Farmers were informed about turmeric cultivation, crop management, its processing and marketing during the workshop.
A spokesperson for the Horticulture Department said the farmers were also made aware of seed varieties, natural farming and seed village. Over 100 farmers from all the farmer producer organisations (FPOs) participated in the workshop.
The spokesperson said two FPOs with more than 500 farmers would be setting up their small-scale processing units at Morni to produce turmeric powder in a streamlined manner. The processing would be done as per the industrial standards to maintain the nutritional value of turmeric. This would be facilitated under the Crop Cluster Development Programme (CCDP). After the workshop, two more FPOs showed their willingness to set up their individual units.
Considering the increasing demand of organic products worldwide, “Project Turmeric” was launched under the guidance of the Director General, Horticulture, Arjun Singh Saini, and the Additional Director General, Ranbir Singh, along with the help of SFACH team.
Under the CCDP, support will be provided to FPOs in terms of branding and marketing.
