Haryana Speaker Gian Chand Gupta inaugurated the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Haripur village in Sector 4 here today.
With the opening of the centre, generic medicines and surgical equipment would be available to Panchkula residents, especially poor, at a much lower price than the market rate, he said.
The Speaker said under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, five centres had been opened in the district and there was a target to set up 25 such facilities.
After inaugurating the centre, Gupta enquired in detail about medicines and surgical equipment available there. He said the Haripur centre was the second Jan Aushadhi Kendra of Panchkula city. The other one was being run in Sector 6. He said efforts would be made to open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra at the Civil Hospital, Sector 6.
The Speaker said these centres should be widely publicised so that people could take advantage of generic medicines available at subsidised rates. He said medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras were certified by the World Health Organization and the GMP and no one could question their quality.
Speaking on the occasion, Om Prakash Verma, Nodal Officer of Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, said 1,800 types of medicines, more than 200 types of surgical instruments were available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras at a cost 50 to 90 per cent less than the market price. He said heart, blood pressure, cancer, gastric and antibiotic medicines were available at the store.
