Panchkula MC House approves Rs 300 cr budget with focus on infra boost
The Municipal Corporation (MC) House today discussed and approved the budget estimates for the financial year 2025-26. The session, held to deliberate on revenue and expenditure, focused on the city’s developmental projects and fiscal allocations for the coming year.
The proposed budget for 2025-26 estimates a total income of Rs 300.23 crore, up from the approved budget of Rs 262.94 crore for the year 2024-25. Meanwhile, the total expenditure is projected at Rs. 284.40 crore, a higher allocation compared to the previous year’s Rs 251.35 crore.
Nearly all the agendas put forth by the committee members were approved with minor amendments. Be it food cart regulations, pet dog management or the proposal to make city colonies permanent, each agenda was discussed at length in seven-hour long meeting held by the civic body, presided by Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal.
Besides, funds from schemes such as SFC (State Finance Commission), CFC (Central Finance Commission), SBM (Swachh Bharat Mission), and AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) will be allocated as per requirements.
With the budget approved, the civic body is set to focus on strengthening basic amenities and executing planned development projects. The corporation also aims to enhance revenue collection mechanisms to bridge any financial gaps and ensure the successful implementation of municipal initiatives.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the budget, setting the roadmap for Panchkula’s urban development for the upcoming fiscal year.
Income and spending
Among the major income generators will be stamp duty and property tax, expected to bring in Rs 60 crore and Rs 28 crore, respectively, followed by municipal tax on electricity, which is projected at Rs 10 crore. Other significant sources include rent from the civic body’s properties, license fees, ad charges and deposits.
A significant portion of the budget is dedicated to deposit works and other infrastructural improvements. The expenditure plan includes provisions for road construction, sanitation, and waste management. The MC also aims to improve civic amenities, strengthen public infrastructure, and enhance urban mobility.
