In view of the shortage of technical staff, the Panchkula Municipal Corporation has now proposed to hire two consultants for setting up of an education city and a group housing project.

Education city, group housing project

The consultants will be hired to take advice for preparing detailed project plans of the education city at Chandimandir and a group housing society at Kot Billa. As per the plan, there is a proposal to accommodate university and colleges in the education city and the project would be completed in at least five years. This will increase employment and education opportunities.

According to information, the land would be allotted to law, architecture, engineering and technology, dental and business schools, besides various institutes for starting various professional courses. Various educational groups have shown interest in purchasing land for setting up a university.

After the introduction of change of land use rates by the state government on a par with Punjab, several people are now ready to set up projects in the area. After the setting up of the education city, students of the region would not have to go to Chandigarh, Kurukshetra or Delhi for higher education.

Earlier, the Municipal Corporation has prepared a detailed project report. In the first meeting of the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA), the Chief Minister had announced that the education city and the habitat centre in Sector 1 would be developed by the PMDA. However, later the Chief Minister announced that as the 250-acre land in the Chandimandir area is of the Municipal Corporation, so the education centre would also be developed by it. The work on the project is likely to start soon. After the announcement by the MC to develop the education city, various major educational institutes and groups have shown interest for investing in the project.

Panchkula Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal said there was a proposal to build an education city, a tourism recreation centre and a lake near Chandimandir by the Municipal Corporation. Also, a group housing society was to be set up in Kot Billa village. For both projects, two consultants would be hired to complete the detailed project report.
