Students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) have a reason to cheer as the new building in Sector 23 here would be operational in the first week of July after the end of summer vacation.
The NIFT building is likely to be inaugurated by the Union Minister of Textiles and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in early July and the authorities have started re-carpeting of the road till the institute. The institute set up at 10.42 acre land has been built at a cost of Rs 235 crore.
The institute would have well equipped pattern making and garment construction labs that include—single needle lockstitch machines, flatbed iron tables, dress forms, pattern making tables. The institute would also have fully functional surface ornamentation lab, classrooms equipped with smart screens, resource centre and conference rooms.
The classes had been started in the year 2019 and the students had to attend the classes in Government Polytechnic in Sector 26. The students who had taken admission in the NIFT had to stay in rented rooms in sectors across river Ghaggar. Now separate hostel for boys and girls is also ready and after summer vacations the students would be able to stay in hostels instead of rented accommodation.
Two courses of postgraduate are being offered which include master of fashion management and master of design. The course of master of fashion management with 52 seats was started in 2020 while course of master of design with 31 was started in 2021.
After the new building functional, NIFT would offer courses in fashion design, textile design and fashion communication at undergraduate level and each course would have 30 seats each.
