A gang running a fake Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) website to cheat job seekers has been busted by Panchkula police. Six suspects have been taken into custody so far, including the key accused who was arrested from Gorakhpur.
The gang had created a website that closely resembled the official HSSC portal for the Common Eligibility Test 2025. The fake site was designed to look like the genuine one and was collecting money from unsuspecting candidates through QR codes. Panchkula police cyber team acted swiftly and got the fake website removed from Google, preventing more candidates from falling victim.
The scam came to light after HSSC officials noticed the fake site and lodged a complaint at the Sector 5 police station on Wednesday. The Panchkula Cyber Cell immediately got the fraudulent website taken down and launched an investigation.
Three special teams were formed, leading to the arrest of four accused from Gorakhpur, one from Kurukshetra and another from Fatehabad. All six accused are between the age group of 25 to 40; it also includes one female culprit. Cyber experts revealed that the gang had duped as many as 77 candidates and had collected around Rs 22,530.
DCP Srishti Gupta is monitoring the case personally. DCP Crime Amit Dahiya urged candidates to be cautious and warned against using unverified links, QR codes, or payment methods. “Always check for the ‘.gov.in’ domain before registering. In case of any suspicious activity, report it immediately to police or the cyber helpline,” he said.
