In a step towards modernising law enforcement, the Panchkula Police is set to harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) and open-source digital tools to identify and track criminals. At a workshop held today at the DC Office Conference Hall, DCP (Crime) Amit Dahiya unveiled a series of technological upgrades that promise to make policing smarter, faster and more transparent.

Officers have received training in nearly 20 AI-based open-source tools designed to assist investigations through facial recognition, digital surveillance and activity tracking on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. These technologies will enable the police to monitor suspects and collect digital evidence in real time. Demonstrations during the workshop showed how these tools can support rapid identification.

DCP Dahiya, a former Cyber SP, emphasised the importance of digital literacy in the current era. He warned the public against downloading remote access applications such as Quick Support, AnyDesk, or TeamViewer, which are frequently exploited by cyber criminals. He also advised the public not to trust suspicious messages on social media or transfer money without face-to-face verification.
