Panchkula police nab habitual offender, 2 others with arms

Court sends them to police custody for four days

The police have arrested three persons who had allegedly arrived to commit a serious offence using illegal weapons.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Sector 26 Crime Branch, led by Sub-Inspector Mandeep Singh, apprehended the trio near the Sector 15 vegetable market on May 20.

DCP (Crime) Amit Dahiya informed during a press briefing that the arrested persons were identified as Abhyas, alias Baba, a resident of Bihar, currently living in Chandigarh, Mohammad Adil, alias Khan, from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, and Sushil, alias Baua, from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, aged between 20 and 22 years.

Upon search, Abhyas was found in possession of two country-made pistols and three live cartridges, Adil had one pistol and three cartridges, and Sushil had one pistol and one live round. None of them could produce arm licence following which a case under Section 25(1)(B) of the Arms Act was registered at the Sector 14 police station.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Abhyas is a habitual offender with 12 criminal cases, including charges of attempt to murder and possession of illegal arms, registered against him in Panchkula and Chandigarh. He was wanted by the police.

All three suspects were presented before a court, which remanded them in four-day police custody. While Abhyas has a significant criminal background, no prior record has surfaced for Adil and Sushil so far.
