Panchkula police up surveillance to tackle thefts, drug menace
The police have announced new measures to curb vehicle theft, snatching and drug abuse in the city.
According to a police spokesperson, 11 checkpoints have been activated, and vehicles without number plates and triple riders will be under strict surveillance.
Besides, 13 PCRs and 29 rider units will patrol continuously to enhance security. The police claim that these steps will help in crime prevention and maintaining public safety.
In a crime meeting, Commissioner of Police Rakesh Kumar Arya directed officers to expedite pending investigations and ensure swift arrests of fugitives. Officials emphasised the need for a stronger policing system using modern technology for faster investigations.
The authorities added that strict action will be taken against chemists involved in sale of banned drug. Efforts to identify unauthorised residents were also discussed. The public has been urged to report drug-related activities through a confidential helpline. —TNS
