Panchkula residents oppose poles for fibre cables
Panchkula, January 19
Residents of Sector 8 here have expressed apprehensions over poles for overhead fibre cables being erected by a private telecom company in their neighbourhood.
They alleged that the tower bylaws of the Urban Local Bodies department were being openly flouted and it was causing inconvenience to the public.
RN Gupta, a resident of Sector 8, said the bylaws regarding erection of poles for overhead communication cables clearly mention that precautionary measures should be taken by the company to maintain the ecosystem and aesthetics of the area.
“It also says that the height of the pole should be such that it does not interfere with the electricity cables and the distribution system. The minimum distance between the poles should be 40 metres. A worker told me that its actual distance is 35 metres,” he said. “Such cables should be laid underground,” he said.
Municipal Commissioner Sumedha Kataria said everything was being done as per the rules. The company had approvals from the MC. — TNS
