Panchkula residents want parties to assure abolition of stilt+four floor policy

Trying to use the opportunity, residents welfare associations (RWAs) of Panchkula now want political parties and their candidates to assure complete abolition of provisions of stilt-plus-four floor constructions on residential plots.

The Citizens Welfare Association is one among various welfare associations that wants residents to pressure candidates of political parties to promise scrapping the provision.

Association president SK Nayar said, “Vidhan Sabha elections are to be held on October 5. Candidates of political parties have started campaigning for the elections. We want residents to put pressure on them to assure that S+4 floor constructions will be stopped in entire old sectors of Panchkula.”

He said the new provisions were in violation of the master plan of Panchkula and the National Building Code.

Residents want candidates to include their demand in the election manifesto.

They said residents of old sectors in Panchkula had constructed their houses as per the master plan, but the state government had allowed the new provisions under influence of builder lobby.

The matter of stilt-plus-four constructions had resurfaced in July this year after the state government gave the go-ahead to such constructions. The provision was suspended after some associations of residents moved court in August.
