Panchkula, September 25

Farmers today took out a tractor march in Kalka, Pinjore and Barwala here in response to the Bharat Bandh call given in protest against the farm Bills. The farmers also held peaceful dharnas at several places in the district. No roadblock was reported from any part of the district. The flow of traffic was smooth on the NH-73 that connects Panchkula and Yamunanagar.

Congress leaders, including Kalka MLA Pardeep Chaudhary and state spokesperson Ranjeeta Mehta, extended their support to the farmers’ protest. The party leaders were also seen addressing protesters at Pinjore.

Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union president Gurnam Singh Chaduni visited Pinjore where the farmers were holding a protest. Addressing the gathering, Chaduni said, “The farm Bills will adversely affect the farmers and the entire agro business will go into the hands of few capitalists. We are demanding a new law that can assure farmers of the minimum support price for their crops.”

To address farmers’ apprehensions on the farm Bills, state BJP president OP Dhankar, who was in Panchkula, said the MSP and mandi arrangements would remain as usual. All these things won’t be withdrawn rather these Bills would benefit farmers, he added. “This government is expanding the network of mandis in the country,” he said.
