Single-use plastic: Panchkula sweets shop fined Rs 25K
Panchkula, July 7
A team of the Panchkula Municipal Corporation today raided Anupam Sweets in Sector 11 and fined it with Rs 25,000 after items of single-use plastic were found there. The team seized many banned items like spoons, glasses and carry bags.
According to information, food items and sweets were being sold in single-use plastic. MC supervisor Mohan Lal found that the sweets shop was not processing and disposing of its wet and dry garbage separately. The MC also issued a challan of Rs 1,500 for not disposing of the garbage.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Deepak Sura said their campaign to make the city plastic-free would continue and added raids would be conducted whenever they would receive information about violation of the ban.
Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal warned shopkeepers against strict action for using single-use plastic.
