Panchkula to get shooting range, engineering college

Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini will lay the foundation stone of world-class shooting range sports complex and State Institute of Engineering and Technology at Sector 32 here tomorrow.
Haryana Speaker and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta today said the shooting range would be constructed by the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority. The range would be prepared to host national and international events. “The project, which will come up on 13.75 acres, will cost Rs 150 crore and will be completed in two years,” he said.
The MLA said there would be 60 targets of 10 meter range, 40 targets of 25 meter range and 60 targets of 50 meter range at the facility. Each range would have a seating capacity of 300 spectators. Apart from this, the facility would have an administrative office, range office, jury room, TV or radio room, control room, judge area, armoury, equipment and store room, medical room and equipment checking control room.
The authority will also build a gymnasium and sports science centre, a lounge area, toilets for spectators and for the disabled, and male-female locker rooms for each range. There will be two ground+4-storey hostels, which will have 100 beds each for male and female players. The facility will also support parking facility for 105 vehicles and will be equipped with firefighting apparatus and CCTV cameras.
Gupta said the state would also spend Rs 50 crore on the engineering institute. “The college will be built on 2 lakh sq ft of land. It will have state-of-the-art rooms, classrooms, labs and research laboratories as per the All-India Council for Technical Education standards. There will also be hostel facilities for students.”
He said classes for the academic year 2023-2024 were started at Government Polytechnic Institute in Sector 26. The intake at the college had been increased to 180. The construction of the building of the engineering college would be completed in 3 years, he added.
