To ensure quicker medical response during road accidents, the District Road Safety Committee has emphasised the need to increase the number of ambulances in the city from the current six to 12 under the 112 Emergency Response Scheme.

A meeting of the committee was convened today under the chairmanship of Nishant Kumar Yadav, DC, to review and update the status of various road safety initiatives across the city.

The committee reviewed progress on key road safety initiatives, including auto-rickshaw pick-up points, cycle track segregation, ATC signal installations, CCTV repairs, road recarpeting, pedestrian safety measures, dedicated heavy vehicle lanes, no honking zones and traffic calming works at major intersections. The meeting primarily focussed on enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety, with key emphasis on the installation of pedestrian and cycle signal lights at all major locations. It was decided that Purav Marg will get a dedicated cycle track.

The chairman directed MC to make yellow markings, install plastic bollards and appropriate signage on Vigyan Path in order to make it a no-overtaking zone.
