Giving a big respite to ‘safai karamacharis’ working in toilets given on MoU to various market welfare associations and resident welfare associations, a committee of councillors and officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided that they will be paid as per the wages of the District Collector (DC) rates.

The terms and conditions would be recommended to the General House for a final decision in this regard. A meeting of the committee was held here today under the chairmanship of Mayor Kuldeep Kumar and attended by member councillors, besides officials.

Ashok Beniwal, president, Toilet Cleaning Workers’ Union, put forward the union’s demands. A consensus on the salary-related issues was reached after a detailed discussion.

After the meeting, the Mayor offered juice to the striking ‘safai karamacharis’ to end their protest.
