Panel reviews hit-and-run cases

The District Committee on Hit-and-Run Compensation convened today to review the cases presented by the Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs). During the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G), Viraj S Tidke, urged the SDMs to thoroughly examine the cases and submit their recommendations at the next meeting for a concrete decision.

ADC Tidke said to claim compensation in hit-and-run cases, the victim’s family must first submit an application along with the necessary documents to the SDM, who will then review the case and forward it to the District Committee. The Committee will subsequently refer the case to the Nodal Officer of the designated insurance company.

The required documents to be submitted with Form 1 include a copy of the claimant’s bank passbook with full account details, a copy of any cashless treatment bill from the hospital, ID and address proof documents for both the victim and claimant, an FIR, the post-mortem report (if applicable), and the death certificate or injury report.

Additionally, ADC Tidke announced that for accidents occurring on or after April 1, 2022, compensation is set at Rs 2 lakh for death and Rs 50,000 for grievous injuries. For accidents before March 31, 2022, compensation will be in accordance with the old Solatium Fund Scheme of 1989, which provides Rs 25,000 for death and Rs 12,500 for grievous injuries.
