The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has sought action taken and status report in the incident of sexual abuse with a minor schoolgirl.
Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, CCPCR, stated that it was a matter of great concern and the commission had sought action taken and status report of the incident from the police station and the school concerned.
She added that as a preventive measure, the commission started the sensitisation sessions for the non-teaching and teaching staff of all schools in the UT on the relevant legal provisions/Acts to create a safety net for students.
The Zirakpur police had on Wednesday arrested a bus driver of a prominent school in Chandigarh for repeatedly raping a 17-year-old Class 12 student of the school.
Blackmailing her with her morphed pictures, the accused, Mohammad Razaq, 26, of Mani Majra, had violated the girl thrice between May and July, each time at her house. The girl finally told about the incidents to her parents, who lodged a complaint with the police.
The police registered a case under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the accused and arrested him.
