Chandigarh, August 2
Members of the Social Welfare Committee constituted by the Chandigarh Administration held a meeting on Thursday evening.
In the meeting held under the chairmanship of former MP Satya Pal Jain, the committee suggested that evening OPD should be started in the government hospitals in the UT so that the poor people who are unable to go to the hospital in the morning, those going to work during the day, have access to treatment.
Officials was informed the members of the panel that land has been allotted in Sector 49 for building another senior citizens home.
During the meeting, the committee decided to soon launch a campaign with the cooperation of various departments to make Chandigarh free from beggars. The UT police were requested to trace the gangs that make people beg and kidnap children and take strict legal action against them.
The committee sought a list of children missing from Chandigarh for several years. It stated that the list should be prepared and presented in the next meeting so that further action could be taken on it.
The committee recommended providing Rs 31,000 as ‘Aashirwad’ for the marriage of poor girls in Chandigarh on the lines of the Punjab Government. — TNS
