Panel suspends licence of former vice-president of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association
Chandigarh, July 25
The disciplinary committee of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana today suspended the licence of Dinesh Jangra, former vice-president of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association.
The committee passed the order while hearing a complaint against Vikas Malik, president of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, filed by a woman employee. She also filed a complaint against Jangra, alleging that he supported Malik in his misconduct.
The complainant alleged that Jangra told her advocate over phone that Malik would not stop until and unless she agreed to his ‘unlawful’ demands. She also submitted the audio recordings of the alleged conversation.
However, Jangra had denied any such conversation in a statement before the committee on July 10.
“After listening to the conversation, we are of the unanimous view that prima facie Jangra’s conduct was not appropriate. At this juncture, the committee is of the considered view that Jangra is required to be impleaded as respondent number 2 in the present case,” read the order.
The committee has issued notice to Jangra seeking his reply on the next date of hearing.
The committee added that in view of the Jangra’s conduct as reflected in the alleged conversation, his licence was suspended till further order. Hence, he was debarred from appearing in any court of law forthwith.
