Panjab University Senate poll contestants complain to Chancellor

Chandigarh, July 13
More than 12 contestants of the Panjab University Senate elections have once again complained to the Vice-President of India and Chancellor, Panjab University, alleging change in the sequence of elections of various constituencies.
“The motive and objective for delaying the election process was not bona fide and was mainly aimed at ensuring that the entire functioning of the university is paralysed and limited to a ‘one-man show’. Despite specific directions passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court for completing the election process within two months, it was delayed by the university authorities.
“We have reasons to believe that the Registrar-cum-Returning Officer, in connivance with the Vice-Chancellor, reportedly is contemplating yet another mode to create unnecessary controversy. A mala fide attempt is being made for tinkering with the sequence of the schedule of the election from various constituencies. It may be observed in this context that it has been an age-old practice to hold elections in the same sequence as were announced twice in 2020 and 2021, duly approved by the Chancellor,” read the complaint.
“We, from various constituencies of the Senate, request that the elections should be conducted without altering the past practices and sequence of the elections of various constituencies of the Senate,” read the complaint.
