The students, who had gathered under the banner of ‘Panjab University Bachao Morcha’, were taking out a march on the campus and had reached near the Law Auditorium where the Chief Minister Mann was addressing the event.

Around five students sustained injuries when the police resorted to lathicharge near the Student Centre when the protesters diverted from their planned route and tried moving towards the conclave. “The protesters had not taken any permission to come around the venue. No barricading was done around the auditorium and we had to stop them,” a police official said.

After the incident, the protesters were joined by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Krantikari) members at the Student Centre where they raised slogans against the authorities. The police have not registered any FIR regarding the incident nor have they detained any protester.
