Panjab University teachers meet VC, root for Central University status
Chandigarh, June 15
More than 100 teachers of Panjab University (PU) met the Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Raj Kumar, today and urged him to take all necessary actions for converting university into a Central University.
Teachers articulated their two core demands before the VC, including implementation of the seventh pay scales for PU teachers and enhancement of their retirement age from 60 years to 65 years.
Prof Manu Sharma that the PU was always combating perennial financial crisis and this issue could be settled only if it becomes Central University.
Dr Parveen Goyal, a Senate member, argued that with the conversion of the PU into a Central University all stakeholders like students, teachers, non-teaching employees, general public and others would get benefitted.
Dr Naresh Mehndia highlighted that the now was the golden opportunity to convert the PU into a Central University.
Dr Priyatosh Sharma stressed that with the conversion of the PU into Central University students would get more scholarships, fee would come down, laboratories would be modernised, teachers would get pay scales on time, their retirement age would increase and university would get more funds.
