VC Renu Vig calls for awareness drives on menace of drugs
Panjab University (PU) will hold its annual convocation in December 2025, announced Vice Chancellor (VC) Renu Vig while addressing a meeting of all chairpersons, directors and coordinators of the varsity’s teaching departments at the Senate Hall.
Emphasising the need for a healthy and progressive campus, Vig called upon all departments to initiate intensive awareness campaigns on the menace of drugs and to involve students in activities promoting mental health, the “Say No to Drugs” movement, and the “Viksit Bharat” mission.
Libraries to open from 9 am to 9 pm
Vice Chancellor Renu Vig advised the departments to keep their libraries open from 9 am to 9 pm during the exam period. The move is aimed at allowing students better access to books, reference material and reading room.
“The Chancellor and Vice President of India, CP Radhakrishnan, has desired that the university should be completely drug-free. This can be achieved with the help of each and every department,” she added.
The VC stressed the need for timely submission of accurate data and strategic planning to further improve PU’s position in national and international rankings. IQAC Director Sonal Singhal made a detailed presentation on improving University rankings and suggested practical measures to enhance university global and national reputation.
Varsity professor Latika Sharma briefed about the preparations for the Global Alumni Meet to be held on November 1, while Controller of Examinations Jagat Bhushan added that all undergraduate entrances will be conducted in December-January and advised departments to ensure timely preparations for the same.
Finance and Development Officer Vikram Nayyar informed the HoDs regarding implementation of online student record management system which shall capture the complete life cycle of the student. The portal has separate interface for departments as well as students. The meeting was attended by Dean of University Instruction Yojna Rawat, Director, Research and Development Cell Meenakshi Goyal, and the chairpersons of all departments.
