Panjab University to host 14th Rose Festival from today

Panjab University is all set to host its much-awaited 14th Rose Festival, starting February 7. The festival will be inaugurated by PU Vice-Chancellor, Renu Vig, at 3 pm. Over 115 varieties of roses are on display at the Prof RC Paul Rose Garden, with 10 new varieties added this year, including ‘Arina 93’, ‘Singing in the rain’ and ‘Victor Hugo’.

The three-day festival promises an exciting mix of cultural events and competitions. On Day 1, participants will showcase their skill at the flower competition, followed by Mr and Ms Rose Competition, with a performance by Jagjit Wadali in the evening. Day 2 will feature rangoli and painting competitions, while rock band “Parwaaz” will entertain the crowd at night. The final day will see the Rose Prince and Princess competition and crowning ceremony, followed by a musical performance by Punjabi singer Jeet Jagjit.

Over 500 entries have been received for the competitions, drawing great interest from the community. Those wishing to participate can apply at the single window enquiry, PU, until 10 am on February 7.

The Prof RC Paul Rose Garden, spread across 2.5 acres, has been spruced up for the festival, with improved entrance gates and hedges. The festival will also feature various awareness stalls, focussing on issues like environment, blood donation and legal assistance, organised by groups like Enactus, Department of Environmental Sciences and State Legal Services Authority.
