Parents of 10-month-old Vansh donate organs & body at PGI
The parents of a 10-month-old infant, Vansh, from Lehragaga, Sangrur, donated their child’s organs — and, in an extraordinary first, his body as well — to PGI, Chandigarh. This remarkable gesture, following the child’s untimely death due to a tragic fall, marks the first known case at the institute where organ donation was followed by body donation.
Vansh was initially treated at Civil Hospital, Sangrur, and Prime Hospital, Patiala, before being referred to PGIMER on May 18 after sustaining severe head trauma. Despite best efforts, the child succumbed to his injuries. His parents — Tony Bansal and Premlata — made the courageous decision to donate his organs, and subsequently, his body for medical education and research.
Fighting back tears, Bansal said, “It’s a loss beyond words. Though we couldn’t save our son, we hoped his brief life would bring hope to others.”
PGIMER director Vivek Lal praised the family's generosity. “Their decision in the face of profound grief represents the very essence of humanity,” he said.
