The Chandigarh Administration has started patchwork on the V-3 roads across the city. These roads were transferred from the Municipal Corporation (MC) to the UT Engineering Department.

The cash-strapped MC had not carried out any repairs on these roads for the past two years. The 275-km V3 roads, dividing the city sectors, are now being repaired on a directive of Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria.

Talking to The Tribune, UT Chief Engineer CB Ojha said, “Our teams have already started patchwork, and we are working on a mission mode to repair the potholed roads and carry out subsequent recarpeting before the onset of winter.”

In a first-of-its-kind move, the UT Administration will also be adopting Geographic Information System and AI technologies during the repairs. The V-3 roads will serve as a pilot project for a videographic survey that will use AI to identify and analyse the condition of roads. — TNS
