An Integrated Veterans Complex is being established at Mohali that will provide various facilities and assistance to ex-servicemen, including transit accommodation for medical treatment.
Land for the same has been acquired from the Punjab government and work on the same is expected to commence soon. The project has received budgetary allocation of Rs 30 crore.
The development was made public at the 9th Armed Forces Veterans Day commemorations organised by the Western Command at Chandimandir Military Station, which is dedicated to honour the contributions and sacrifices of Armed Forces personnel in the line of duty.
Western Command has also established 42 Veteran Sahayta Kendras (VSK) to act as a single-window grievance redressal mechanism for problems being faced by the veterans. Besides, the online working of the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme has been bolstered with the commissioning of six new servers.
Over 1,400 veterans from the Army, Navy and Air Force, including several nonagenarians, attended the event. They were updated on pension and healthcare matters and various welfare schemes.
