The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) observed World Elder Abuse Awareness Day at the Aged Day Care and Wellness Centre, Rongla village, and at Jyot Ashram, Guru Nanak Charitable Welfare Society, today. Special interactive sessions were held with elderly residents.
DLSA secretary Amandeep Komboj emphasised that the day was observed to spread awareness against exploitation, negligence and abuse of senior citizens and to promote their rights, safety and welfare.
The elderly persons were informed about laws related to environmental protection, free legal aid services, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) helpline number 15100, and the benefits of Lok Adalats and Permanent Lok Adalats.
Para-legal volunteers conducted awareness seminars to educate the senior citizens about their rights and available facilities.
