Patient dies as car overturns

Kharar: A patient, Hari Singh (75), a resident of Singhpura village near Kurali, was killed while three members of his family had a narrow escape when the car they were travelling in overturned near the toll plaza on the Kurali-Mullanpur road on Monday. ASI Dalwinder Singh of the Kurali Sadar police station said Hari Singh had taken ill and was referred to the PGI from the Civil Hospital, Kurali. When his family members were taking him to the PGI, their car overturned and Hari Singh became unconscious. He was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The police have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. OC

Mohali water supply to be hit

Mohali: Following an eight-hour-long power shutdown in a grid due to repair work, the water supply will be hit in several parts of the town on Tuesday. As a result, residents of Phase 1 to Phase 7, Phase 9, 10 and 11, Sector 70 and 71, Mataur and Shahi Majra villages, and the Industrial Area, Phase 1 to 5, will face water shortage. TNS

Neighbour faces theft charge

Chandigarh: A Sector 38 resident has been booked for theft at his neighbour’s house. According to the police, the suspect, identified as Deepak, allegedly stole Rs 40,000 and a CCTV camera from his neighbour’s house on December 15. A case has been registered at the Sector 49 police station. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. TNS

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a Kajheri resident for eve-teasing. The suspect, identified as Shahid, was arrested for passing comments on a girl in Sector 51 here on December 15. A case against the suspect was registered at the Sector 49 police station. He was arrested and later released on bail. TNS

Driver hurt as car overturns

Chandigarh: A man riding a Volkswagen Polo car was injured after the car turned turtle at the Hallo Majra light point here on Monday morning. Sources said the car, which was being run at a high speed, went out of control, following which it overturned, leaving the driver injured. The police were informed about the incident. Cops rushed the injured to the GMCH-32. The car was later removed from the site with the help of a crane and taken to the Sector 31 police station. TNS

Two nabbed for drug peddling

Ambala: The police have arrested two persons in separate cases of drug peddling and claimed to have recovered 4.540-kg poppy husk from their possession, officials said here on Monday. According to the police, Sonam, alias Sonu, of Mullana near here was arrested on a tip-off at a check post near Hemamajra turn in Mullana. His search yielded 3.540-kg poppy husk. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded him to five-day police custody. In a separate case, Balwant Rai of Zirakpur was arrested with 1.2-kg poppy husk at a check post in Mullana. He will be produced before a court on Tuesday. TNS

3 arrested on assault charge

Ambala: The police have arrested three persons – Jarnail Singh and Sunil of Naraingarh and Sanju of Yamunanagar – for assaulting two siblings and threatening them with dire consequences, officials said here on Monday. According to the police, Prince Kumar of Naraingarh had reported to the police that the accused had assaulted him and his brother with batons and threatened them with dire consequences on December 9. The suspects accused will be produced before a court on Tuesday, the officials said. TNS

Four persons go missing in Ambala

Ambala: A minor boy and a teenage girl were among four persons who had reportedly gone missing from their respective homes in separate incidents, the police said here on Monday. According to information, Inderpal Singh of Barara near here had reported to the police that his 12-year-old son Abhiraj had left home on December 15, but did not return yet. Similarly, an 18-year-old daughter of Karnail Singh of Naggal near here had been missing since December 12. In a separate case, a newly married woman (22) had left home in Parav near here on December 14 but did not return yet. In the fourth case, Amriti of Naraingarh had reported that his 23-year-old son Aamir Khan had been missing since December 12. The police have lodged missing reports. TNS

46 donate blood at camp in city

Chandigarh: A blood donation camp was organised by Shree Shiv Kavad Mahasnagh Charitable Trust and Mansa Devi Bhandara Committee in Sector 22 here on Monday. The camp was inaugurated by Sanjiv Chadha, general secretary of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal. Rakesh Kumar, president of Shree Shiv Kavad Mahasnagh Charitable Trust, said 46 people donated blood at the camp. The PGI and Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab, also extended support for the camp. Chandigarh: As many as 164 units of blood were collected a blood donation camp organised by the Thalassaemic Charitable Trust at Kumar Rasoi, Sector 37, here.
