Patwari caught taking Rs 20K bribe
A contractual revenue official, Rakesh Kumar, was apprehended by the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The arrest was made outside the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) office in Sector 6, Panchkula. A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The ACB initiated the operation following a complaint from Virender, a resident of Saketri. Virender had reported that a parcel of land, jointly owned by him and his four brothers, had been acquired by HSVP in 2003. Dissatisfied with the compensation, the family sought legal recourse, resulting in a court directive for the enhanced compensation. When the complainant approached Rakesh Kumar to process the updated compensation, Kumar allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 each from the five owners. After negotiations, the deal was settled at Rs 20,000.
