Chandigarh, February 10

A short term course on geospatial technologies to create awareness about the nuances of software for Geographic Information System (GIS) was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, Punjab Engineering College. (PEC). The faculty members and research scholars from various institutes in the vicinity attended the programme.

The course highlighted the application of GIS in water resources and e-tools for slope displacement studies in the Himalayan region.

Dr RR Singh, Head of the Department emphasised the role of GIS and remote sensing techniques in the government’s smart city initiative.

Joint Director, Snow and Avalanche Studies Establishment, Dr Jimmy Kansal, shared his views on the importance of these technologies in the engineering field as well as in military operations.

Prof LN Sharma gave an expert talk on the current use of geospatial studies in analysis and management of water resources. Manish Sharma introduced the GIS platform to the students while Dhiraj Kumar Singh demonstrated the sample data analysis application.
