Pending projects, waste segregation on his mind

Ravi Kant Sharma, the fifth and the last Mayor of the current MC House being ruled by the BJP, exuded confidence to resolve contentious issues of the corporation but could not spell out the roadmap. He has taken over the reins of the House at a time when the MC is tackling challenges like shortage of funds, poor roads and waste segregation. The first citizen speaks to Sandeep Rana of Chandigarh Tribune on these issues.

• What will be your priorities?

Firstly, I will ensure we successfully implement the waste segregation in the entire city. Hopefully, we will resolve issues related to this in a day or two. Besides, I will accord priority to completing the projects initiated by our four previous Mayors.

• How will you tackle the shortage of funds in the MC?

We have already raised the earning of the civic body from Rs170 crore in 2017 to Rs325 crore now. Besides, we will surely get more funds from the Centre.

• Poor condition of roads has been a major issue in city.

Tenders have been allotted for all road recarpeting works. Just after the winter season, all road works will be carried out in a phased manner.

• Anything on increased water rates?

We will work on providing relief to the residents.

• There is widespread factionalism in the BJP. Will it affect your or MC’s working?

No, there is no factionalism in the BJP. See, all our councillors voted for the party. Besides, I will take everybody along for the betterment of the city.
