People throng Dist Court to pay traffic challans

The District Courts complex in Sector 43 here witnessed a huge rush today as people thronged the place to pay their traffic challans.

There were long queues at the counters specially created for paying challans on the court premises. The District Courts are holding a week-long Lok Adalat specially for paying traffic challans from March 3 to 8.

The decision to hold the week-long adalat was taken to avoid heavy rush of people on a single day at the National Lok Adalat to be held on Saturday.

At National Lok Adalat, all kinds of cases, including matrimonial, cheque bounce, accident claim matters, are disposed of.

Keeping in view chaos during the previous National Lok Adalat caused by people turning up in large numbers to pay their traffic challans, the authorities have made extra arrangements this time. The courts are receiving a large number of traffic challans generated by the CCTV traffic surveillance system every day.

People visiting the District Courts for paying their challans complained about the CCTV-based traffic challan system.

Kishori Lal, a resident of Sector 43, said he had not deliberately violated the traffic rules. The traffic police must understand the genuine problems of people before issuing challans.

The District Courts authorities have appealed to the people to use the facility of virtual courts to pay challans.

On successful payment and realisation of the fine, the case is automatically disposed of through the virtual court. In case people are eager to contest the challan, they can also use the videoconferencing facility to appear before the court.
