PGI foundation day tomorrow

Chandigarh: The PGI will celebrate its Foundation Day on Thursday. Padma Shri Ajeet Bajaj will be the chief guest and Deeya Bajaj will be the guest of honour at a function to be orgainsed to mark the day. Ajeet and Deeya were the first Indian father-daughter duo to climb the Mt Everest. Ajeet is also the first Indian to ski to the North Pole and complete the polar trilogy, which entails skiing to the North Pole, South Pole and across the Greenland icecap. Ajeet Bajaj will speak on “Summiting Mount Everest” during his address. TNS

Two UT officers get new charge

Chandigarh: The UT Administration has issued posting and transfer orders of an IAS and an HCS officer. Rupesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner, MC, has been given charges of Director, IT; Director, Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology; and Director-cum-Additional Secretary, Tourism. Isha Kamboj, an HCS officer, has been assigned the charges of Joint Commissioner, MC, and Joint Secretary (Coordination). TNS

VanMahotsava at ITBP centre

Chandigarh: As part of the nationwide Vanmahotsava, a massive tree plantation drive was undertaken by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police at its Basic Training Centre in Bhanu near here on Tuesday. As many as 5,000 saplings of various varieties were planted around the campus. TNS

Gupta inspects P’kula hospital

Panchkula: Haryana Speaker Gian Chand Gupta carried out surprise checking at the General Hospital, Sector 6, on Tuesday and expressed displeasure over certain irregularities in providing health facilities to patients. He directed the health authorities to rectify these at the earliest. Gupta said a detailed report would be prepared and sent to the Additional Chief Secretary, Health. He would also meet Health Minister Anil Vij and apprise him of the condition at the hospital. TNS

TT tourney kicks off on July 8

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Table Tennis Association in association with the SDTTAC will organise the 1st Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament from July 8 to 10 at the Sector 50 Table Tennis Hall. The championship will be organised in both boys’ and girls’ singles U-11 (for players born on or after January 1, 2012), cadets singles U-13 (for players born on or after January 1, 2010), sub-junior singles U-15 (for players born on or after January 1, 2008), junior singles U-17 (for players born on or after January 1, 2006), youth singles U-19 (for players born on or after January 1, 2004) and men and women singles categories. Those interested can submit their entries before July 7. TNS

Recruitment drive of Army

Patiala: The Army has started a drive to recruit youngsters in the armed forces. The recruitment office in Patiala said it had started accepting registrations for the armed forces from July 5 and it would continue till August 3. The Army Recruitment Director, Col Ashish Lal, said youngsters from Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Barnala, Malerkotla and Fatehgarh Sahib would be able to participate in the drive. Interested participants can apply on the online portal, www.joinindianarmy.nic.in . The Army office will issue admit cards on August 25 while the recruitment drive will be held from September 17 to 30.
