PGI researcher receives IVS-Young Scientist Award

Research scientist Pryanka Thakur of the PGIMER has been awarded the prestigious ‘IVS-Young Scientist Award 2024’ (medical) at the recently held international conference of the Indian Virological Society at the Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior. She has been given this honour for her research work on ‘Role of NLRP-3 inflammasome and beclin-1/LC3B autophagy gene markers in the mediation of virus replication and cytokine storm in the severity of dengue patients’.

Pryanka, who hails from Himachal Pradesh, started her research work in July, 2018.

She shared, “It’s always a great feeling when your work is recognized, not just at the national level, but at the international level also. This study was based on dengue patients from 2018 to 2023.” Her study revealed that how in severe dengue cases there was significant up-regulation of NLRP-3 inflammasome gene and autophagy genes.
