PGI scholar gets JC Patel award

Aditya Singh, a PhD scholar, has won the prestigious JC Patel award for best research paper at the 60th annual meeting of the Indian Society of Haematology and Blood Transfusion held in New Delhi.

His work on “Gene editing and silencing of BCR-ABL fusion transcript using novel RNA CRISPR cas 13a” was adjudged the best experimental research from amongst the six shortlisted award papers. The work had been carried out completely in-house by Aditya in the Paediatric Haematology Oncology Molecular Laboratory, PGIMER, Chandigarh, under chief guide and mentor Dr Prateek Bhatia, Associate Professor, Paediatric Haematopathology, and in charge of the laboratory.

The work is likely to pave way for further translational studies on possible cure for chronic myeloid leukaemia using gene editing in near future.
