With the existing parking contract at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) ending on July 31, the administration has assigned the responsibility of managing parking operations to its in-house security personnel.

Deputy Director Pankaj Rai has already tasked the Security Department with managing the safety of over 12,000 patients and attendants visiting the institute daily.

The temporary arrangement started today as no private agency came forward to bid for the new parking tender.

Despite floating a new tender, the PGI did not receive a single bid—reportedly due to the high rates and strict conditions mentioned in the tender documents. According to sources, multiple agencies expressed concerns that the cost parameters were too steep to be commercially viable.

Until a new agency is appointed, regular and contractual security guards will handle parking duties at both public and staff areas.

Dr RS Bhogal, Officer In-charge (Security), issued orders to this effect and the Chief Security Officer has released a duty roster for the month of August. The roster assigns guards to manage entry, exit and ticketing processes across the campus.

Authorities acknowledged the increased burden on the Security Department, but assured that it’s a temporary arrangement until new agency is appointed.

The administration is currently reviewing the tender terms to encourage participation from service providers in the next round of bidding.
