In order to tackle the ever-increasing rush of patients in OPDs, the PGIMER will soon get the possession of nearly 50-acre land at Sarangpur.

During a review meeting with UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore here today, PGI Director Dr Jagat Ram discussed various issues pertaining to the institution wherein the support of the Administration was required.

On highlighting the issue of increase in the number of patients in the OPD, the Administrator directed the officials concerned to complete all formalities and give possession of 50-acre land at Sarangpur to the hospital authorities within three to four days, said Dr Jagat Ram.

The institute plans to set up a new Out Patient Department, a trauma centre, a learning centre and a full-fledged cancer centre at Sarangpur. Nearly 10,000 patients visit various OPDs of the institute from Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, besides Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.

During the meeting, the Director also showed keen interest in buying two towers from the Chandigarh Housing Board for accommodation of doctors and other staff.

On raising the concern of dirt while conducting langar outside the PGI, the Administrator ensured that officials would deliberate upon shifting of langar to some other place.
