Chandigarh: A photo exhibition titled, “Canvas of life: A media kaleidoscope” was held at Panjab University. The exhibition, which showcased over 100 photographs by 51 photojournalists, was organised by the Department of Public Relations, Panjab University, and the Centre for Social Work, PU in collaboration with the Chandigarh Press Club. The guest of honour on the occasion was Patrick Hebbert, Consul General of Canada in Chandigarh. Prof Jagtar Singh DSW (Men) and Prof Roopali Garg, DSW (Women), were also present on the occasion. Several journalists and photojournalists were also present on the occasion. TNS

AC Joshi Library gets new in-charge

Chandigarh: Prof Sudhir Kumar, Director, Research and Development Cell, has taken charge of AC Joshi Library as university librarian. Prof Kumar, during discussion with staff members, said, “AC Joshi Library is one of the prestigious libraries in the country. The library plays an important role to support teaching and research.” Prof Kumar has also given ideas for the development of the library for its readers such as starting of ‘Granth Varta’ to have discussion on a particular book or a theme on regular basis, display of library-related news and information in digital signage in Hindi and Punjabi and to provide more users friendly services. National Reading Day contest

Chandigarh: Anil Namdeo Mali and Sarika Shinde from Balasaheb Thackeray Law College and Bhumika from Haryana claimed first three positions, respectively, during national slogan writing competition, organised by Sri Sukhmani College of Law to celebrate the ‘National Reading Day’. The day is celebrated to spread awareness among young generation about the importance of reading. Students from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and others state participated in the competition. TNS

Mentorship programme at CCA

Chandigarh: A mentorship programme was held at the Chandigarh College of Architecture to sensitise students of BArch (First year). Dr Sangeeta Bagga Mehta, Principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA), welcomed Dr Namrita Kalsi, Chief Architect, New Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and alumnae of the CCA. She impressed upon need of mentorship in light of National Education Policy 2020 and multidisciplinary approaches in architecture and its curriculum. The programme was also attended by Prof Rajnish Wattas, former Principal, CCA, and Sumit Kaur, former Chief Architect, UT, Chandigarh. TNS

Awareness lecture on drug abuse

Chandigarh: On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) organised an awareness lecture with Dr Shantanu Shukla from PGIMER Chandigarh, to spread awareness amongst students. Shukla discussed the ill effects of drug use with more than 300 students. He also explained how the mechanism and mind of an individual changes when he/she consumes drugs on regular basis. He advised different ways and methods to handle such situations and also how an institution can spread awareness about drug abuse.
