Chandigarh, September 6
The UT Administration has asked the PGI to provide a suitable place for serving free food to attendants of poor patients on its premises.
During a surprise visit to the area today, UT Adviser Dharam Pal noticed that langar was being served to poor patients and their attendants by the roadside outside the PGI.
To avoid rush of people and distribution of free food by various organisations on the footpath, he said they had asked the PGI authorities to provide a suitable place for the distribution of langar on the campus where vans carrying food could also be parked.
Earlier, the hospital authorities had turned down a proposal of NGOs to serve food to attendants of poor patients inside the premises.
UT Finance Secretary Vijay Namdeorao Zade, Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra and Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar accompanied the Adviser during his surprise visit.
Slow smart meter work irks Dharam Pal
UT Adviser Dharam Pal expressed displeasure over the slow pace of installation of smart electricity meters in the city. Even after nearly five years, not even 50 per cent of the work had been completed, he said, adding that he would shortly take up the issue at a meeting with the Secretary, Power, over the delay in the implementation of the project.
Nearly 30,000 smart meters are to be installed in Sector 29, 31, 47 and 48, and Faidan, Ram Darbar, Hallo Majra, Raipur Kalan, Makhanmajra and Daria villages and the Industrial Area.
